James Hobbs

Mr. Hobbs is an associate practicing civil litigation and criminal defense. Mr. Hobbs manages a varied docket of civil cases, including commercial litigation, employment law, and the defense of property damage and personal injury actions. He also works as a team member on many of the firm’s complex civil cases, including cases in the areas of commercial litigation, employment law, and attorney malpractice. Mr. Hobbs is adept at analyzing sophisticated legal issues and enjoys the challenge of resolving legal problems in new contexts.

In his criminal practice, Mr. Hobbs is committed to the representation of indigent defendants. He serves on the Federal Criminal Justice Act panel for the Western District of New York and has been appointed to represent defendants in federal court. Mr. Hobbs has also been retained to handle appeals on behalf of the Monroe County Public Defender's Office.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hobbs served as a law clerk to the Honorable Janet C. Hall of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. As a clerk, Mr. Hobbs handled both civil and criminal matters, assisting the Judge in the research and preparation of opinions and management of trials and hearings. Prior to his clerkship, Mr. Hobbs practiced law at Arnold & Porter LLP in New York City, where he handled a variety of complex litigation matters, including white-collar crime investigations and the defense of government enforcement actions.

Mr. Hobbs is admitted to practice in the State of New York, each of the federal district courts in New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of New York, and the United States Court of Federal Claims.
