Ms. Merkel has represented small and large clients in both state and federal courts.  Before joining the firm, Ms. Merkel served as a law clerk to United States District Judge David G. Larimer, where she handled both civil and criminal matters.

Prior to relocating to the Rochester area from Washington, D.C., Ms. Merkel worked as an attorney advisor for the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, an independent federal agency that adjudicates OSHA citations and penalties.  Ms. Merkel also served as in-house counsel for an international labor union, where she specialized in labor relations and employment issues.

Ms. Merkel is a graduate of the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, and she holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Ohio University.

Ms. Merkel is a member of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys and the Monroe County Bar Association, and currently serves as the chair of the Professional Performance Committee.  Ms. Merkel is also an active volunteer in the community, and served for two years as the president of the Board of Directors for the Genesee Center for the Arts and Education.

Ms. Merkel handles civil litigation, including commercial litigation, employment litigation, ERISA matters, and electronic discovery.
